I seriously didn't think this was going to happen in my lifetime. A group starring three Asian girls? On Nickelodeon, of all networks!?! I am surprised Disney didn't do it first, but I am glad to see that the show is being made. I used to be a huge fan of Nick with Carly, Victorious and Sam and Cat, but lately their shows have been... simple minded. This looks like it will actually be something special, and show the U.S. that the BEST entertainers are from South Korea.
Megan's character is describesd as, "[t]he definition of a pop diva. Funky, fresh and free, she can be a little scatter-brained, except when it comes to her number one goal: to be a star! She loves the spotlight and spends every possible moment on social media. Her quest? Becoming famous! Sun Hi loves her life and expects you to love it, too!"
Yesterday, Megan posted on her Instagram, "Stay tuned for my new show #MakeItPop on nickelodeon! #comingsoon in April!", with this cute selfie presumably from the set of her show. Given that Megan herself went from humble beginnings to a K-pop starlet, this role should be right up her alley.
I hoped that it wouldn't flop but after watching the promo I'm a little worried. It makes Kpop look like Kidz Bop and that's just horrible. The show has no resemblance to Kpop whatsoever but everybody knows that it is centered at the theme of Kpop and the show makes Kpop seem like it is for 6 year olds.
It was already on a rough start before it even started because on Mehgan's channel people are already saying stupid things about how Kpop fans are reacting to the kiddish feeling promo. That shows how it doesn't create an understanding of the Kpop culture already. Also, the show seems bland and unoriginal, just straight up boring. Maybe Nick Cannon/Nickelodeon needs to take their hands off of Kpop. Just look at what happened to the Wonder Girls.
