Kang Ji Hwan, who starred in Korean dramas such as “Big Man,” “Lie to Me,” “Hong Gil-dong” and “Capital Scandal,” flew to Cebu last July 9 for a pictorial for the Korean edition of SURE magazine.
The photo shoot was sponsored by the Philippines’ Department of Tourism-Korea, according to the DOT Central Visayas Facebook page.
However, what made the news in South Korea was not his magazine pictorial but photos of actor Kang Jihwan in bed with a female has been spreading like wildfire on the internet.
On July 11th, the above screenshot spread through online SNS sites, creating a huge scandal in a matter of hours. Kang Jihwan, who was spotted at the airport and was seen traveling to the Philippines is seen in the photo. He was supposed to return on the 13th after finishing his schedule.
Kang Jihwan’s company has released a statement, admitting that the man in the picture is indeed Kang Jihwan.
However, they denied that the two have any relationship. The company revealed, “The current Philippine guide’s wife took a picture with Kang Jihwan jokingly. The guide’s wife is extremely sorry [about the incident]. She said that she will personally upload an explanation on her personal SNS. We cannot say anything to the female since it was just an accident.”
A certain Angel Javier posted pictures of herself beside a sleeping Kang Ji Hwan on Facebook with the caption “together sleep with Korean actor Mr. Ji Hwan Kang.”
The “selfie” photos immediately spread in South Korea.
A representative of the actor was quoted in the Korean media as saying that the woman is the wife of Kang Ji Hwan’s tour guide in Cebu and that he took the photos for fun.
Javier posted an apology on Facebook, saying “very sorry only edited pictures hope you can forgive me because his my idol sorry again.”
