Yuri and Yoona have been nominated at the “50th Baeksang Art Awards”, an annual award show which honors achievements in South Korean entertainment. Yuri received a nomination for the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in film with her role in “No Breathing”, while Yoona was nominated for the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in television with her role in “Prime Minister & I”. Last year, Yuri received the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in television at the “49th Baeksang Art Awards”. This year’s “Baeksang Art Awards” will take place on May 27th at Kyunghee University.

Kim Soohyun will face Yoo Ah In, Lee Jong Suk, Jo Jae Hyun, and Joo Won to win the “Best Actor”, meanwhile Jun Jihyun will face Go Ara, Kim Ji Soo, Kim Hye Soo, and Lee bo Young for “Best Actress”. KBS’s Good Doctor, SBS’ I Hear Your Voice, jTBC’s Secret Love Affair, SBS’ You Who Came From the Stars, and tvN’s Reply 1994 will go head to head to win the best drama.
To give you a general idea of what the Baeksangs are, it’s an award ceremony first established by a newspaper founder and is presented annually in the spring by IS Plus Corp, which is the publisher of a newspaper. It’s the only major award ceremony to honor both film and television, so in that regard it’s a bit like the Golden Globes. The film world has numerous other awards (various film festivals and the Blue Dragons, for instance) but television doesn’t have much outside of its own broadcaster-hosted awards (i.e., the end-of-year ceremonies from KBS, MBC, and SBS) but as those events are self-congratulatory and designed to spread the love around strategically, I tend not to take them that seriously.
